Media5-fone Pro VoIP SIP Phone App Reviews

Update fixes some issues, but new bugs

App no longer freezes when running in background. System sounds (text alerts, etc) are back. 3G is far from perfect, but works better than other voip apps. Some bugs remain when answering (freezes/doesnt always pick up when answering 3G calls). While trying to answer a wifi call it randomly dialed someone in my contact list and I could hear them and the phone still ringing at the same time, yet couldnt talk or pick up the incoming call. Come on guys, you have a nice app, but this strange behavior is unacceptable. G729 codec (best for 3G) is an extra $10.

Best SIP client for iOS

The interface is intuitive and very well integrated with iOS. But more importantly, Media5 has/uses the best SIP client available giving you the best possible voice quality. Unfortunately, they cannot control the network and 3G voice quality (even with G.729) is not always perfect - but is usually very good. BTW: I experienced the "start-up issue" introduced with v2.5 and reported the problem directly to Media5. The team responded immediately and worked diligently until I had a solution. Media5s dedicated team provided outstanding technical support. Thank You!

The free version is fine, the "Pro" version is disappointing

The free version of the app works well but only supports a single connection. The PRO version does the same, yes, you can configure multiple providers but it will only listen on one at at time. I bought the PRO version because I want to connect to two at a time without running two separate apps. I would accept setting one as the primary outgoing connection but I want to be able to receive calls from both without reconfiguring the app. The stated requirements are OS 3.0 but it will not run on an iPhone with 3.1.3 (hangs at first dial button push). Even dialling on an iPhone 4 will pause for a couple of seconds in the first two or three numbers. The free version seems to have less pauses but still does not run on an original iPhone. I did not try it on my iPod Touch 2G. I like the SIP traces, that is a good diagnostic feature but you could argue that it should not be required. Trying to use a bluetooth headset with it was also a failed experiment, it would not stay connected for some reason and would not pick up when I push the button on the headset. So in general the app works but it seems only on the newest phones. If you are looking for a business-ready app I would suggest you keep looking.

Poor quality for softphone

I tried a few softphone apps and this seemed to be the best until they updated the version. Them it didnt load anymore. After they went on to make another update but still there was bugs. Im using Bria as of now.

Media5fone pro review

This app is not bad in regards to sip configuration and being able to setup my freephoneline.ca number on it. However many problems. When in a call that requires numbers pressed to navigate a menu does not register numbers pressed. Constantly disconnects in phone calls. I switched to isip and it corrected these probes. I even paid for the 3G codecs on media5fone and still issues.

Excellent voice quality

I have been using this application on my iPod for a few months and Im impressed with the voice quality. It was also very easy to setup the connection with my VoIP provider. Two thumbs up for the work guys.

Simply Great Again

As a road warrior, I need a good solution. This application works well with our corporate Asterisk VoIP system. I am using G.722, with great voice quality. Now, with iPhone4, the application is always available and I dont need another phone. By using the Follow-me feature from our asterisk PBX, when called by the office, calls are sent over my Media5-fone application. If I am not registered on the network, the PBX is sending it to my mobile regular number. I am saving a lot of money when travelling too.

Good start need some work

Great app occasional crashes but getting better every update! Would LOVE to see an IAX option!!! Also DTMF tones rarely work in call. Eg typing in a vm password or automated operator selections.

Stop working

Cant hear anything after it connected. Please fix this expensive app

Better than Bria

The noise and echo cancellation is FAR superior, and the interface and config is straightforward. Works perfectly over 3G on Telus in Canada connecting to my Asterisk server. Remember to keep the "secret" short - less than 16 chars or so. Had some issues with extremely large passwords.

Great sip phone!!

This sip phone works fantastically, have had no issues with it so far. Although it would be nice to have Bluetooth integration. It somewhat works but you are unable to answer the calls from The sip phone using the bluetooth like you can for regular phone calls. But other than that its great!

Technician

Works pretty good but but cant use simple features like call transfer on Panasonic Tde and Ncp phone system. Hoping these features will be enhanced on Panasonic IP PBX.

Really Good

Really good application on my iphone 4s OS 5. You can select wifi or 3g network or both. Nothoing to do. They switch between network and reconnect automatic. Best application for voip ( i try a lot) . this version is pro and the sound is clear ( i pay $ 0.99) Chrismas special. No banner on the pro version.

Worst purchase ever i made on itunes

7.00 $ + tax for choppy voip calls i tried With another free sip app and the voice was far superior. I wish i can be refunded because this is junk

Ringer volume

Good app. Ringer volume is too quiet. Had to download alarm clock free and max out its volume on that in order to hear ringer on media5 fone over slight background noise. Not sure why that works but I read it somewhere and it fixed the issue. Also not great over 3G when tethered to blackberry data. Eg sim card in blackberry, iphone sharing 3g via tether. But I was asking a lot for that to work. It does sometimes pass the caller Id which is helpful so I know whether to pick up call on blackberry.

Re-register

After emails as late as June 22, 2012, still no word from support...very discouraging to say the least. At times, re-registering, upon detection of WiFi, seems to fail for no apparent reason. Going from 3G to WiFi and back seems to be an occasional problem only. The frustrating part is that it goes unnoticed!

Still and remain the best!

best voice quality in any network conditions.

Great VoIP app for SIP PBX

Working great with top voice quality

Good, but not perfect

Overall experience is quite good a few weeks into it but i have 2 issues: 1 call handling when a standard cell call comes in us not great when swapping back ( at least not as good as the phones) 2 you cannot answer a call with a locked screen, which takes a few extra seconds to get to. Otherwise, well worth the few bucks.

The best VOIP/SIP app.

Ive been using this app since the begining and from the 20+ VOIP apps that I have tried with no doubt this is the best of them all. Keep the good work! Cheers.
